KCM On Balance – February 2024

It’s February! We’ve made it through the holidays, rung in a New Year—and now we’re gearing up for another tax season.

Although this year is a Leap Year, it’s still the shortest month of the year. And, in many parts of the country—even as we prepare taxes—we’re inching toward warmer weather and that glimmer of spring. Which was also the verdict of famed meteorologist, Punxsutawney Phil, who didn’t see his shadow on February 2, thus predicting an early spring.

In This Time Is Different economists Reinhart and Rogoff analyzed 250+ financial crises spanning 800 years and found a common belief of people thinking, “This time is different” and old rules no longer applied.

Research confirms that traditional investment principles persist: risk and reward are intertwined, price matters, diversification mitigates risk, and patience is essential for investing success.

Despite recent market volatility, avoid the temptation to think, “This time is different.” Instead, adhere to proven investment strategies for long-term success.
